Because my question topic has reached the 2nd forumpage I will post the question about my system here (I hope some of you guys can help
Dear gentlemen,
I have been folowing this project for a couple of months now and I must say it looks awesome. I have a question about the specifications of my computer. I am not a computerman, I know not much of computers. My question is: Will OMSI run on good quality on my computer? I have copied this specifications from Can You Run it.
I have an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz . When I take a test at Can You Run It, it sometimes say: Performance rated @ 5,2 GHz. I don`t know what that means.
My RAM is 3 GB and I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. My videocart is a GeForce 9800 GT with 1,7 GB Video RAM.
I have DirectX version 11.0 and I have a High Defenition Sound Card. And I also have 484 GB free space.
I hope you can help me with this question. It would be great to play this game.
Kind regards,
Tom The Netherlands

Please excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by 2008 - 2009 settings?

There is a drop-down list in settings which allows you to choose optimal settings for PC's of 2006, 2007...2010 or 2011 or minimal settings. Then you click a button and OMSI automatically adjusts the settings according to your choice (2006...2011/Minimal)

There is no big difference between u set 2011 or minimal, i get almost the same FPS Result. Most decided is by your graphic settings in example. nVidia Panel, all you need is good & fast graphic card with minimum 512 mb which got high-clocked memory and enough is Core2Duo 3.0ghz ... You won't really big result when u put i7 than good C2D.

Where is this drop down list on the OMSI settings screen?! I sure as hell can't find it!

First tab on the left. It's empty and it has a text-box below it and two buttons beside it.

If I overclocked my Core 2 Quad 3.0ghz upto 3.2 or 3.4ghz would the game run smoother? I'm a bit wary of overclocking because I overclocked my old Pentium 4 3.2 & ruined the CPU & the board!

If you already destroyed your old CPU & motherboard by overclocking I wouldn`t take the risk.

before overclocking, ensure that the CPU is sufficiently cooled and do not apply too high voltage to the CPU core

i945 is the chipset, not CPU and i think the onboard graphics of 945 chipset will not be running omsi smooth enough.. try "minimum" preset anyway

I've got following species: AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.80 GHz (single core) 1024 MB RAM (DDR 400) nVidia GeForce 7300GT 128MB (overclocked clocks: 660 MHz core from 500 MHz default, 860 MHz memory from 700 MHz default, I don't get any artifacts, even if I play GTA: SA all day) Windows XP Home SP2 and it works! But on Grundorf I'm getting 17-35 FPS (it works correctly, no lags) and in Berlin 9-11 FPS when I start at Rathaus Spandau and 16-20 FPS when I start at Stadtgrenze. With PC I have it's unbelievable! I've got: limited textures (apart from own bus) to 256 pixels Max Hi-Res Text Memory 100MB, Real Time Refl. Tex Size at 256, Max Obj. Visibility at 500, object complexity at 2, map complexity at 1, reduced AI traffic to 50 unscheduled cars and 2 buses (scheduled). How can I get max power from my piece of sh*t (cause I can't call it PC no more )? Maybe should I overclock also my CPU? I don't have too much cash, I'm from Poland, our premier is Donald Tusk , one bread is 0.5 EUR, the f*cking 1kg of sugar is 1.24 EUR with real average salary 300 EUR (not statistical, f*cking real), I've got a f*cking sister that she eats 3 times more than me (but my mum calls ME greedy) so don't expect me to be a millionaire. My mum gets in work 372 EUR/month, dad (pensioner) 128 EUR, I'm 17 and I cannot work so I earn 0 EUR/PLN/USD/CHF/GBP/RUB/IDR (this is f*cking Poland, you must be 25 year old man - NOT WOMAN! - discrimination - after 5 directions of studies, have 20 year old experience, be full of energy, have own car, if not - GTFO, you won't be hired), so I don't have cash for good, new PC (this sh*t I have is 8 years old "monster" modernised in 2006 ) and if you only can tell me "buy new" - F*CK YOU. But if you can really help me, please do this. I don't expect to make a rocket from my turtle PC, but if I can get more power - tell me how.

That is way too much information that we cared to know! You could play around with the settings and untick the limit textures to 256pixels, I would suggest with tweaking all of the settings around. You could disable reflectives completely, that will speed things up in the sim drastically. you could change the 100MB opition to that of 80% of your ram, and see if performance increases or not. If anything does not work, then your PC is the bottleneck!

you could try increasing your RAM to ( 3-4GB ) or you could try this free solution

Here in Holland 17 year old people can bring around newspapers, work in the supermarkets or McDonalds for example. You can`t do this in Poland?

If an economy is that bad, the unemployed adults gets first grabs, which could give the person some bad luck in finding a job, since most experienced people get the job. But then again, its possible to do some odd jobs, just not on a fixed salary

There is a big difference between Poland and Holland, not only in name. Look one reply up. But let's get back to the topic. OK, I used your advices. Berlin map is still not playable at all, but f*ck that. Pilzdorf, Dortmund and Meisendorf maps are working perfect, 0 lags. I hope there will be more add-on maps for low-end PCs. To people with weak PCs: don't limit visibility closer than 500m, game can lag during loading and generating textures to further placed buildings and the bus can... jump like the young kangaroo.

I currently run medium graphics with a low system
Intel Pentium 2.0 GHz nVidia GeForce G 103M 3GB RAM
Worse possibly, since omsi uses only one core. You can get minor stutters, but its playable at around 20fps

Hi all,
First of all, congratulations for the great game.
I had downloaded it at the Aerosoft shop without knowing if my computer was able to run the simulation with decent fps. I can play OMSI even in the Spandau map but i have to set the graphic options to very low standards, and its a shame for a game with so much detail and possibilities.
I run OMSI on a Pentium E5200 @ 2.5Ghz (dual), with 3GB Ram and a GeForce 8600 GT with 256mb.
Before installing the game i had managed to save a few euros for a steering wheel, but that´s secondary now..
... the big question is, what is the best next move to improve the game looks, assuming that i can´t get a brand new computer?
More RAM, a new CPU, ou a new card?
Thank you

It is difficult to make a suggestion. But I have tested various configurations. As a result, in my opinion, the best is to improve the CPU with many GhZ. OMSI seems to depend primarily on the CPU power and less of RAM or GPU. see also this discussion (German): Grafik-Ruckler und Verwaschung

Thank you!
Changing the CPU would probably require a new motherboard, probably i could aford it rigth now.
Wondering if changing from a GeForce 8600 GT with 256MB GDDR3 to and Radeon HD 4670 - 1 GB GDDR3 could make some visible diference.
