Thema: Re: [NEW PREVIEW VIDEO]: "Stagcoach Newcastle Part 2 (X82)" Fr 6 Mai - 20:40
Hi Joel,
Yes you're right, it's at drivers discretion as to whether they take the Corporation St, Westgate Rd, or the Stanhope St routing* (timetable and traffic permitting). Most do indeed take Corporation St or Westgate Rd but there's a factor within the map that would mean that if I sent the X82 up the currently modelled Westgate Rd, the distance between the junction with Westgate Rd/Elswick Rd (top of the motorbike hill), and the General Hospital, would be too short. (This doesn't have any impact at the mo, because the 30/31 turn into Elswick Rd). So that constraint has driven the fact that I will need to model the Stanhope St routing, as the distances and road representation for Barrack Rd / Stanhope St / West Rd are pretty much spot on.
From the buses that pass your house I'm guessing you must be somewhere around the Lemington Road Ends area... maybe Union Hall Road, Hillhead Rd, somewhere like that.
Cheers, Dave.
*For the benefit of others; there are no stops on the X82 route between Gallowgate/St. James, and General Hospital, so the buses have the discretion of 3 possible routings, depending on traffic

so why do they have three different routes?
think its stupid because otherwise if theres stops on one route people might wanna go to, they might be missed out

There are no stops along these three different alternative routings. They're just for "emergency cases", depending on how critical the traffic is at a given time, to avoid timetable delays. So passengers are safe about that.

Hi again Dave
Yep thats alright could maybe include them in V20 or something haha. But yep Stanhope is the best to be modeled as it would also mean that if you did the 39/40 about 75% of the route would be there.

Yep I knew you would guess correctly I live just off Hillhead road.

Is there a bus in newcastle that combines the two routes of X82 and 30/31 into one?

Nope the X82 and 30/31 are completely seperate routes but they cross at The Denton Hotel.
If you check out these Stagecoach links it should explain all the routes.

Tom, as the guys said above, the X82 doesn't stop between the areas in question (it's limited stop all the way along it's route), hence it makes no difference to the passengers which of the 3 routes the driver takes.
X82 and 36/30/31 are very different routes;
The 36 is all about transporting students from Fenham (HUGE student population) into the City ...... the 30/31 connect three very different areas to the city centre (Benwell/Elswick; lots of families, children, social (council) housing etc..... Gosforth; affluent but also densely populated....... Fawdon/Montagu Estate; on the northern belt of the city; mixed, some nice areas, and some note so nice parts!).
The X82 is all about getting people from the far western fringes of Newcastle's boundary (Throckley, Walbottle, to a lesser extent Denton Burn), into the City, quickly, and without stopping at a lot of the en-route areas it passes through closer to the city centre.
Cheers, David.

NEW! The first short preview of part of the X82 route.
This is only about 1/5 of the route but it shows some good interaction with the 36 route.
Please note, NO traffic lights have been placed yet on the specific X82 route sections, so there are lots of AI crashes in this video!
Thanks to Thiago, for the experimental engine sounds.

Looking good so far, but I'm so used to Corporation St. that when you drive straight ahead at Gallowgate I'm thinking that you've got lost, then I realise Stanhope exists. Hahaha
Also the FBW is fairly good to drive, its no where near MAN SD standard but its not bad at all; good for getting through the traffic in town.

Thanks folks, yes, it's a great bus! ..... a heck of a lot more 'ready' than the Karosa. I've been driving the FBW on the M32_Spandau map and it's great on that route.
Joel; I was at Stanhope St yesterady and saw two X82's doing the Stanhope St routing ... and bizarrely, one was an Enviro 400 double decker that they normally only have on the 'super routes' !
