My sound mod is too quiet

I am making a sound mod for the D92, and the big problem is that their sounds are way too quiet! I upped the volume by 4 using audacity, yet they still sound like hybrid buses! Is there any file that is really essential to the engine volume, because the upshift and downshift just give a dramatic 1-2 second volume change when switching gears
