After seeing both demo videos I'm amazed with how realistic the roads and sidewalks look (as well as everything else Smile). Now I understand that there is going to be an editor for route construction, will this editor also take care of the construction of roads and sidewalks themselves?

Having the editor 'generate' roads and sidewalks procedurally will be a huge time-saver when it comes to building routes, but might impede flexibility (although with OMSI that won't probably be an issue Rolling Eyes). On the other hand, the make-it-yourself approach like in Virtualbus allows you to create whatever roads you want, but usually leads to poorly texturemapped road surfaces with stretched-out markings etc...

Ok, should've read the FAQ more thorougly Embarassed So spline-type streets it will be, looks very promising. But is the spline system flexible enough to create something like this..

.. or would such a construction have to be made into a separate mesh and somehow attached to the street parts?

Generally spoken, spline streets are fixed cross-sections extruded along a path. So every smooth change of cross-section will lead to the construction of an individual street object. Thus, crossings, turning lanes and that bus gate will have to be separate objects wich can be attached to splines and vice versa.

Btw, will OMSI provide a way to create/edit road markings separately (decals 'on top' of the road) or would these have to be baked into the (intersection) mesh textures?

For now, there is no special function to create road markings.
Road markings in spline objects must be textures, but as far as self-made street objects are concerned, you can model them either way, of course. You can also combine these ways in order to keep the number of textures low, e.g. adding decals on a lane wich already has textured markings.
