Terrain adapting to a road? Empty
BeitragThema: Terrain adapting to a road?   Terrain adapting to a road? Icon_minitimeDo 2 Jun - 19:46

Hi!
While making my map, a question rised up after having seen some of other user-made maps. Is there any way to make terrain to adapt to a road? I mean, I lay the road and then I want to rise up terrain to fit the road, but doing it by hand is really difficult and tiring. After seeing hilly roads in Great Grundorf, Bad Kinzau...how did you do to make terrain fitting the road?

At the moment, raising terrain to fit the road level is not possible and must be performed manually. But we're thinking of adding this feature later.

Well, thank you so much, Rüdiger, for your answer. I have now more than 25 km of hilly roads (with heights up to 550m above 0-level), so a lot of work if waiting to me. Thanks!

Its somewhat possible to do such but you need to factor in that the hills have to have about the exactly same gradient as the road, and then more complications come when going down and up where the peak is easiest

I wonder though if there are any updates for the omsi software that is currently in the works..

It would be awesome to have the terrain adapting to the road, doing it manually requires so much work and time.

Currently, the most efficient method is to bring the terrain up to the level of the road using Set Level.. every few metres or so - thus creating a 'stepped' effect beneath a hilly road, just to get a course outline, then use the brush to align perfectly. I find that setting a brush size of 2 and a speed of 50-100 is optimal for manipulating the terrain accurately. You click on the peaks and dips of the terrain mesh to manipulate it best - there is no visible grid right now so you must use your imagination.
Its tiresome work but I can do a kilometre in a full day's worth of solid work (although would take me about a week as its very tedious work).
