I wonder it It is funny how and why they have forgotten that gauge lmao! Incase knowing how much fuel you have got would be more accurate than filling each day

In BVG maintenance, the buses are refueled each day so there isn't a real need for a fuel gauge. The SD77 never had one and even the newer buses had their gauge removed in the 90s for the driver does not need to know the actual amount of fuel. It's one gauge less to keep working

Most buses do not have a fuel gauge, even modern buses

Hm,thanks for replies
I havent known about the modern buses (e.g Merc Citaro) not having that gauge In Turkey we use Otokar and BMC buses commonly as citybuses, and i always travel in them for weekly course, they have fuel indicator

Well, the VDV-dashboard (Citaro, MAN, Iveco/Irisbus...) have fuel gauge, in the LCD screen

Occasionally there might be a fuel gauge, but it will never change since they just disable it. Some buses, as pointed above, with digital screens as well may display it, but this equally could be static!

All well and good, but just out of interest, how does the relief driver know not to pull into the garage to refuel, i mean up and down on the M37 doesn't drain the tank all together, but a whole day a bus can go without refuelling?

A driver knows when his tank is empty when he...well...stops lol. there are a few indications like emergency lights you get in cars when fuel is running low. but all buses with full tank at 5am will last until at least 9pm,even if driven non-stop!

Thanks for the hint of sarcasm but im not a bus driver, hence asking - and likewise with the person who started the thread thank you flippy for flipping the script.

Now you know lol! But on serious note that is how drivers know when they are out of fuel, when they stop. You've got to have faith that the engineers filled the bad boy up!

If the buses need to be refueled during the day, it is usually done at set times so the driver knows when it is due to be refueled

Where I work, we are always sure to schedule buses so that they are not on the road long enough to run out of fuel. Therefore, if the buses are all fueled overnight (as is standard practice), the bus operator would not have any reason to be concerned with the amount of fuel onboard. We don't typically do midday refueling.
We use an average of 500km/bus/day as the max we would schedule them for, which in most cases is sufficient for a bus to be out from 5am-1am if need be (although most are not out that long).
