Unoptimized for gameplay

I'm having a huge problem playing with this simulator. After playing it for 2 hours, I can never get more than 20 FPS in the Berlin-Spandau map, even if I have every single setting to the minimum from both the sim and the GPU settings. Here's the important system specs of my PC:

Windows XP w/ SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.7 GHz on overclock
2 GB DDR2-800 (overclocked to DDR2-900 due to the CPU overclock)
GeForce GTX 580 with 266.58 drivers and the latest DirectX 9.0c drivers
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB SATA 3.0Gb/s

There were a few things that I've done to get my PC prepared to run the simulator. First, before installing the GTX 580, I made sure to uninstall the graphic drivers used for the GeForce 8800 GT and used CCleaner to clean all traces of the old drivers. After installing the 580 and installing the latest graphic drivers, I tested my upgraded system on a few games made in the past 3 years and had none to very little problems running them. I've also defragged my HDD after installing it, but before running it. However, I can't understand why my PC won't run this simulator properly.

I truly want to play this sim for days, weeks, even months to come, but if I can't run it to it's full potential, then it's useless.

The GTX with the CPU is a Massive Fail, it is seriously your CPU that you get a bad Framerate.
Quad Core CPU´s are The best alternative und they work with the GTX 580.

Yes, that's our huge problem: good quality or good framerate...?

But 20 FPS is really not bad for Spandau... It should not be less then 10, but ok, that's not good... But more then 20 needs a really high end PC and good conditions (no bad weather, not too high AI traffic...)

Hmm, the GTX 580 surely won't be the bottleneck.
Framerates on the Spandau map can sometimes be critical, especially when you are in the dense Rathaus Spandau area. 20 fps is good there (but usually with a higher setting than minimum), at the terminuses, framerates should be between 25 and 30 (with higher options and AI traffic, too). Maybe it's indeed the CPU that slows down your performance, but even with the given CPU you should be able to get acceptable framerates with the 2007 or 2008 setting, I suppose.

Could you please post some more information about the settings you're using and where on the map you get which framerates?

I was reminded that my CPU can be the bottleneck of my PC, but I didn't think that it's performance on this sim would be THIS bad! I wasn't really planning on upgrading the other important parts until later this year, but if a quad-core CPU is the way to receive acceptable framerates, then I'll just have to suck up and buy one for the time being...

hmmm that looks terrible!!!! I hope that I dont get that sort of problem when I manage to get the game! - I will Not be happy with that - it looks like games that were made in the 90's !!!!! my condfindence in this game is slowely getting worse!

I feel the same, I am actually appalled at the lack of a proper GUI on the menu's, and for such low quality textures the minimal requirements are higher than that of Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Hmm, that's really weird. I'm sorry but I don't know what causes the problem. There must be a huge bottleneck. As I said, even with your current CPU, you should be able to get acceptable FPS on e.g. the 2007 or 2008 setting. But 18 fps with all options turned off is definitely not normal. How's your PC performing in other 3d games?

@random.ronster1981: What do you mean? "The lack of a proper GUI"? OMSI uses THE GUI, the regular windows design everyone should be familiar with

I also have problems like this, i have a AMD Phenom II X6 3.2 GHz and a GTX 470 with 4gb RAM. It can play everything fine, as you would expect. However, with all settings set to minimum everywhere, i cannot even get 20 FPS. On the tutorial map its great and runs smoothly, however on the main route its unplayable!

I believe someone has found a memory leak if possible

Memory leak? Could be, like i say my system can run any new game at the moment on full settings without a problem, so something is wrong if i cant even get 20 fps on minimum settings!

@ShortCappy sometimes in other games, I found out you get better FPS if you default the settings back to way they were. I suggest you try that... good luck with that.. i highly doubt your CPU is the bottleneck though.. i suggest you do a control-alt-delete and make sure your CPU is idling before starting up OMSI. Also, a ton of junk on the desktop could play a role as well.

For me the tutorial map is perfect 50+ fps on max settings. Its just when i use the main route its unplayable!

Same here fps is absolute crap on berlin route but on the tutorial i grt 50+ too. it looks like its limited to around 15

But just to be sure: You have not reduced the "target FPS" on the graphics tab in OMSI options...????

no I have set it to 200 and still I can't catch higher than 13FPS in Berlin..
On tutorial map I got 55FPS, highest 67FPS everything on MAXED out!!

I don't understand....
When I set to lowest settings I got 12FPS in Berlin..
When I set to maxed settings I got 12FPS and some crash report...


And sometimes I got d3dx9.dll crash report too...

For NOW I like the game very much only I can't optimize Berlin route correctly (Whatever graphic settings I enter it is still most of the time 12FPS)
I will drive testroute from now...

A game is never optimized for all computers, and will still have bugs, minor or major. But meh, I can't have a say since I won't be able to have OMSI until March 5 (when my final money comes in and I rush to the post office for a gift card)

I am having some problems as well. Grundorf map runs fine for me even with higher settings.
However, when I start from the depot - buses are nicely lined up and then suddenly start jumping up and down and crash into themselves. Similar to the picture above but I do not get an error message.
I have tried changing my settings from high all the way to low and also re-installing the game.
My base system specs:
Intel Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz, 2.5 GB of RAM, Nvidia 9600 GT.
Your help will be appreciated very much.

For me, heres how it goes:

Test Route

Every setting maxed out, with target frame set to highest (200).

100+ FPS at one point, but usual 50-60 FPS

Berlin Route

Every setting minimum, with target frame set to highest (200).

Less than 20 FPS at all times!

this is strange man something is slowing down game...
I can't get higher than 15FPS in Berlin at lowest and at maxed settings
Testmap is really ok 50-65FPS

Really apaulled it seems the only system it works on is the developers
