Thema: How to translate OMSI Fr 18 Feb - 16:12
Hello!
So because somebody may be interested in translating OMSI and today is the first day to get it, I just want to tell it:
You will find a subdirectory with the name "Languages". There you will find some files with the extension "olf". These files can be opened as tab stop separted text files with e.g. excel or just with notepad.
Now you just have to copy "DEU_basic.olf", "DEU_key_game.olf" and "DEU_key_veh_gen.olf" (or these ones with "ENG") and rename them in that way, that the first three letters are the identifiers for your favourite language.
Now open them and look around: in the first line, there is also the three letter ident of the language - change it to your language.
Then following are quite a lot keywords (first column), than a tab stop and after that the text which will be displayed. THIS text you have to change! But don't change the first column with the keywords.

Greetings! Unfortunately I couldn't buy and download it yet due to server problems. I intend to start translating it to Portuguese-Brazilian as soon as I get it. This will help a lot of bus simers in my country.
Best regards, Thiago

May I ask, why this wasn't possible just by clicking on GER/ENG in a menu?

That's a misunderstanding. Of course the available language packs can be switched via menu. Marcel has only posted informations for those who want to translate OMSI in a language OTHER than German or English which isn't available yet.

Hi, I´ve had first problem with translating... What does it mean exactly: DG_Driver_Busstops_Early thereof too early: DG_Driver_Busstops_Late thereof too late: DG_Driver_HitAndRun_Heavy thereof heavy:
and
DG_Driver_HitAndRun Abscondings:
I have never seen "thereof" and I can´t explain to myself even using dictionary... I guess it´s something like: You arrived so early or you left the bus stop so early... And what the hell is abscondings? I guess it´s not translated from german and it means something like hiding from justice? ;-)
Thanks

It's comparision to timetable... It counts the amount of stops you stoped at already and registers thigns that aren't up to the timetable (I learned not to care about timetable because the only timetable in Galway is from the termini).

The first two texts appear in the following context:
In the driver menu, there is a count of total bus stops looking like
Bus stops: 100 thereof too eary: 10 thereof too late: 40
So have made 100 stops of which 40 were too late.
Absconding is "hit and run". You've caused an accident but fled instead of waiting at the scene and calling the police. "Heavy absconding" is fleeing from a crash scene with much more than only small damage. Like smashing hard into a car leaving its driver injured but fleeing the scene of the accident without notifying police and/or ambulance.

You souhld call the police and wait? Is that really possible? It is just awesome...
Anyway, maybe wait for a few minutes and I´ll EDIT this message adding all things which I´m not sure about...
EDIT: No P.S. in Reflexions

Of course. When You've hit another car, you should stop, turn on the warning lights and call the police by pressing the blue flashlight button on the menu. If you don't, an "absconding" entry will appear in your personnel file.

Alright, it looks well for alpha version... But there are few problem....
1) There is a font bug, concrete letter " ř " and " ě " doesn´t display correctly... 2) I guess that there is possible import as many languages as many I want... I saw the table and I´ve find out that for Czech republic is cse (never seen before), so it have to be cse, not CZE, right?

1.) Hmmm, we just using the standard fonts, e.g. courier and so on. If they haven't these letters, please just use others! (sounds funny, but I don't know any other help ) 2.) Yes, you can add as many languages as you want! The list I gave you the link is just an "official" list, so if everybody uses these idents, there are no collisions! And it contains all important languages!

Come on, I don´t believe there is no chance to modify your font, even when it is just some times new roman or Arial or something common... If that was possible in GTA IV with their special font, this have to be easy to do... The question is: How? By the way there are many languages with specific letters, I guess I´m not the last one ever who ask this...

In my Windows, Courier and other fonts include these characters from Czech alphabet (I'm Brazilian). I don't know if this issue is related to the font encoding type. I'll try to insert these characters here and see what happens.

I tested with these characters and tested the translation to Portuguese I'm doing (which uses á, é, ó, í, ç, õ, ã). The characters also got messed up. In Portuguese, the lack of accents do not harm the comprehension of the word, but I don't know if the same thing occurs in Czech I'll try to find a workaround.

Yeah, of course, it´s possible to just don´t use this characters but it doesn´t look nice and it is unpleasant to read if you know what I mean... I´m sure this have to be possible to modify..

I could manage to insert accents in Portuguese. I use Notepad++ and I had to convert the file encoding to "ANSI" to get the proper characters. I noticed that my MS Sans Serif does not include Czech characters. They appear like a | symbol. Anyway, I'll keep trying to solve that.
