Hello, how exactly does the bus sound system work in OMSI? would one recording with multiple sound simples work or do

I would like to know if such a recording is possible in OMSI as shown in this you tube video recorded by an associate of my.

This is the 6v92ta engine with the ZF 4hp-590 with the transmission torque converter disengaged!!

Same model of the bus [Neoplan an440] with the torque converter engaged

Septa Neoplan #3416; torque converter engaged

The sound engine can be customised exactly to your needs. So you can either use one recording or split it up into many different samples, which is the better way as most sounds are independent from each other. Our approach is to record samples of the engine at variable load and RPM, the hubs and the gearbox separately. So we record the engine sounds while standing and the other sounds from am position in the bus whrere the particular sound is loudest (for the hubs between 1st and 2nd door and for the gearbox directly above it).

So the bus shown in your video should be no problem. Engine and ZF-whine sounds should do and maybe some hub sound recorded at the front of the bus. On that bus, it's very important to record some "no load" sounds as well, to recreate the sudden silence when releasing the throttle. Then, the distinctive ZF hissing while shifting down can be used and cleary heard in OMSI as well (requires a bit of scripting).

Thank you very much for the reply,

These buses has been long retired, so in honor of them and their unique sound, I want to model one into OMSI sometime in the not-so-distance future. I do have many recordings at my disposal, but not entirely sure how I would isolate just the gear whine sound to it's self. Is there some kind of audio software do you guys use to recreate the whine or just pure recordings in general.

I assume that the sound in OMSI also depends on other varibles just as gear ratios and torque converter lockup placement as well?

That clip is interesting. In Dublin we had buses with General Motors 6V71 two stroke engines which sounded very similar to that. However they were coupled to Allison three speed gearboxes, with a splitter on the second gear, creating a unique sound effect. To listen to them in action, similar to the bus in the clip, there are three or four different sounds running simultaneously, which would be nice to recreate in OMSI. Hopefully the way to do this will become clear. It might be possible, by observing how many sound recordings were used for the Berlin SD bus, and seeing how they are assembled in the program, to learn the best way to do it.

For example, I would like to use the sound recordings of the Voith gearbox on the Berlin bus, but mate them to a recording of a Cummins L10 engine. I hope that will be possible too.

http://vistanland.webs.com/OMSI/D89_ZF.rar There are my Cummins L10 sounds taken from Youtube videos (the Idle and Low sound is for a Dublin bus - a GAC I think - single decker). Other sounds are from Lynxes so I am not too sure how they would work with the Voith gearbox - you do not need the script just the sounds. I might upload a separate one for Cummins/Voith after trying it out for myself.
